As with most trends, these particular trousers aren’t exactly new. They first popped up in the beginning of the 20th century, where they were worn in equestrian sports. Women no longer used the sidesaddle, so they needed a pair of comfortable trousers. The strap under the foot made sure the leggings stayed on inside the riding boots.
In the 80’s the stirrup trousers first moved to the streets, as lots of sportswear did. Back then, all things related to sports where inevitably hip and quickly became fashion icons. After that we forgot about them again for a while, but guess what: they’re back!
What do you think of these? Would you wear them? Let me know in the comments!
